Hebrews 11:1: Faith looks beyond what is visible
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11 goes on to describe people whose trust shaped real choices. Some experienced deliverance; others endured suffering. Reading the whole chapter helps us avoid treating faith as a guarantee of immediate success.
Proverbs 3:5–6: Acknowledge God along the way
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
These verses belong to wisdom instruction about a life oriented toward God. Trust does not require abandoning careful thought. It asks us not to treat our own understanding as complete or independent of God.
A practice for a decision
Name the decision before you. Consider the responsibilities involved, seek wise counsel, and pray with openness to correction. Trust can include patient attention to facts and the humility to change your mind.
