Some days strength means taking a bold step. On others it means staying present, asking for help, or beginning again. These verses place our attention on God’s sustaining care.
Philippians 4:13: Strength for changing circumstances
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Paul has just described learning contentment in both abundance and need. Read verses 10–13 together: his confidence is about Christ sustaining him across circumstances, rather than a promise that every ambition will succeed.
This makes the passage especially helpful when life does not match your plans. You can ask for the strength to act faithfully in the situation you actually face.
Isaiah 40:31: Waiting and renewal
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40 speaks comfort to a weary people and contrasts human limitations with God’s enduring power. The images of soaring, running, and walking describe renewed strength. Walking matters too; faithfulness often takes the form of ordinary steps.
Waiting on God need not mean doing nothing. It can include prayer, thoughtful action, and accepting that not everything can be resolved immediately.
When you feel weak
Name what is hard without adding a judgment about your worth. Then ask what one faithful step might be. Scripture’s language of strength allows dependence; you do not have to become self-sufficient to receive encouragement.
A prayer for endurance
Lord, meet me in my limits. Give me strength to do what is mine to do and humility to receive help. Teach me to walk with you, even when progress feels small. Amen.
