Before the day fills with other voices, take a moment to address God in your own. This original prayer is a starting point. You can shorten it, add names, or pause wherever a sentence meets your circumstances.

Scripture for the morning

Psalm 143:8KJV

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

The psalmist asks to hear God’s lovingkindness and to know the way to walk. Guidance begins within a relationship of trust. That makes this a fitting passage for an ordinary morning as well as an uncertain one.

A morning prayer

God, thank you for this new day. Help me receive it with gratitude rather than hurry.

Guide my attention toward what matters. Give me patience with interruptions and wisdom in the choices I make. Let my words be honest and kind.

Bring to mind the people who need my care. Help me listen before I answer, and notice the work that can be done quietly without recognition.

When the day becomes difficult, remind me to return to you. When something goes well, help me give thanks. Teach me to be faithful in the ordinary things in front of me. Amen.

Carry one line with you

Choose a single sentence from the prayer. You might write it beside your first task or remember it before a conversation. The purpose is attention, not completing a spiritual checklist.

If the morning is already busy

A prayer can be brief: God, guide my attention and help me act with care today. Begin there, then return when you have more room.
