1 Corinthians 13:4–7: A life of patient love
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Paul originally addresses a divided church. Applied to marriage, these words invite daily habits of patience and truth. They are a vision to grow into, not a claim that love is always easy.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10: Help along the way
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
