Psalm 4:8: Entrust the night to God
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4 includes distress, reflection, and trust. Its closing picture of rest grows from the psalmist’s confidence in God. It can become a prayer even on nights when sleep does not arrive easily.
Matthew 11:28: Come with your weariness
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Jesus invites the burdened to come to him. The following verses speak of learning from him; this invitation concerns discipleship and care, not merely a bedtime routine.
